Corticosteroids affect the immune system’s ability to fend off viruses and other infections, and patients on these drugs are considered immunosuppressed. But what about anabolic steroids? In this video I take a look at how and why cortisol and corticosteroids have this effect, and examine the research and anecdotal data on how anabolic steroids may differ. In animal models we do see immunosuppression, but anecdotal evidence in men who use steroids does not seem to follow the same pattern. During the current public health crisis please be careful, stay safe and healthy, and get rest! If you’re going to come off steroids please do so with the help of an expert to avoid difficult withdrawal.
